British engineering company Roll-Royce has signed a contract with state electricity company PT PLN to maintain a power plant built by the former for the latter in Tanjung Batu, East Kalimantan, the British company said on Friday.

Under the "total maintenance contract" signed on March 31 this year, Rolls-Royce will be fully responsible for the maintenance of the 64-megawatt combined cycle power plants for six years, Rolls-Royce regional director in Indonesia Mike Gray was quoted by the Jakarta Post daily as saying.

"This is Indonesia's first aero-derivative gas power station," Gray said.

The power plant is the main supplier of power to the provincial capital of Samarinda, the province's oil town of Balikpapan and their neighboring areas. It is supplied with natural gas from the Sanga-Sanga gas field owned by PT Exspan Kalimantan, a subsidiary of Medco Energy Corporation. (*)
