The world's major power turbine manufacturer Rolls-Royce will build a gas-fired power plant with a capacity of 2 x 2.75 MW in Samarinda in cooperation with PT Persada Kriya Dwiguna and the local authority, Investor Daily reported on Friday.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreement on the development of the new power plant was signed in Samarinda on Thursday. The signatories included representatives of the Samarinda municipality, Rolls-Royce and PT Persada.

Fadly Illa, a senior official of the Samarinda municipality, said that the local administration would be responsible for providing the site of the power plant, while Rolls Royce would be in charge of providing the power generator, service and maintenance. In other side, PT Persada will supply the gas needs of the power plant.

Fadly said that the electricity to be generated from the power plant would be sold to the local branch of the state owned electricity company PLN. He, however, did not say when the construction of the new plant would be begun. (*)
