Top officials of Russia?s oil company Rosneft led by CEO Igor Ivanovich met with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said on Wednesday to express the company?s interest to partner with state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina in the Tuban fuel refinery project in East Java.
Senior officials of Pertamina including President Director Dwi Sutjipto accompanied the Rosneft team in the meeting. ?Rosneft is one of the preferred bidders (in the Tuban refinery project),? Dwi said, adding that the Russian firm also offered Pertamina to invest in upstream project in Russia.
A number of foreign oil giants such as Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Petroleum International or KPI (Kuwait), Sinopec (China), and a consortium of Thai firms PTT GC and Thai Oil have previously been included in the short list of candidates for a strategic partner of Pertamina for the construction of the estimated US$8-9 billion refinery.
Minister Sudirman said the government will let Pertamina decide which company to become its strategic partner in the project. Dwi previously said Pertamina hopes to be able to sign an MoU with the strategic partner in May.
