Russian firm interested to build nuclear plant in Indonesia

Russian firm Rosatom Energy State Corporation announced on Friday it is interested to build nuclear power plants in Asian countries, including Indonesia.

The firm said it will participate in the tender for a nuclear power project that is expected to be announced by the Malaysian government in the near future and the firm also expressed similar interest to the Indonesian government in 2014.

The Nuclear Power Body (BATAN) of Indonesia, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Technological Research and Mid Education have expressed interest to build a mini nuclear power plant in Serpong, Banten with target for completion in 2018.

The company noted that while Indonesia is still in the stage of planning to build a nuclear power plant, Vietnam has moved one step ahead. The Vietnamese government is scheduled to sign two contracts with Rosatom to build the country?s first nuclear power plant called ?Ninh Thuan 1?.
