Russian firms eyeing geothermal projects in Indonesia

Russian firms Inter RAO UES and Power Machines are eyeing geothermal project in Indonesia, especially in West Java and Bali, the companies? representative in Indonesia said on Wednesday.

Raam Saraogi said that both firms were interested to invest around US$1.5-2 billion in geothermal projects in West Java. He said that the companies have met with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to tell PLN about their plan, but so far there was not an answer from PLN yet.

Because of that, the companies had decided to directly talk with the West Java and Bali provincial governments to express their plan, he said after emerging from a meeting with West Java's vice governor Dede Yusuf in Bandung on Wednesday

The companies will conduct study in several place in West Java, including Subang, Karawang and Indramayu, he added. (*)
