Russian firms to sign oil, electricity and smelter agreement

Russian Alumina, a major Russian company, will cooperate with state-owned PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) to jointly build an alumina smelter in Manggu Pasir, Ketapang, West Kalimantan with total investment of about US$1 billion.

The Head of Agreement for the construction of the alumina smelter will be signed during the state visit of the Russian Vladimir Putin to Indonesia on September 6, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Waryono Karno said in Jakarta Thursday.

"The signing of the cooperation agreement will be witnessed by the Russian president and his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono," he said, adding that the ministry also offered cooperation in other energy sector with Russian companies such as in coal and electricity.

In addition, Pertamina and Russian company Lukoil will also sign an agreement on a joint study on the development of new oil and gas field, he said. (Bernard)
