S’pore firm to develop coal mine in South Kalimantan

A Singapore-based company has expressed interest to develop a coal mine in the North Barito regency (Barut) in South Kalimantan, Neraca business daily reported on Monday.

“The Singaporean investor has been advised to open coal mines in Gunung Purei district, one of coal rich areas in the regency,” the head of the regency’s office for mines, trade and industries, Asran was quoted as saying.

He declined to name the investor but said that the company from the neighboring country had agreed to carry a survey on coal potential in the Gunung Purei district.

Coal deposits are found in the Barut regency’s six districts. The coal found in the area has a calorie of between 6,000 and 8,415. (*)
