S. Kalimantan police arrest people from 14 illegal coal mining firms

The South Kalimantan police have arrested a number of people from at least 14 companies which had been involved in illegal coal mining activities in the area, local daily Banjarmasin Post reported on Wednesday.

The companies included PT Jasa Utama, PT Jasa Makmur Sentosa, PT Sidomulyo and PT Tunggal Jaya Makmur.

The 14 companies operate in several regencies like Tala, Kotabaru, North Kelumpang and Tanah Laut, according to the newspaper.

The police confiscated from the companies coal stockpiles, heavy equipment and others.

The South Kalimantan police launched a special operation Nov 13-15 to curb rampant illegal coal mining in the coal-rich province. (*)
