Tabalong regency council members in South Kalimantan and local government officials have been scheduled to discuss on Thursday the possibility of forming a new company for transporting coal produced in the area, local daily Banjarmasin Post reported on Thursday.
Kiswanul Arifin, who heads the Tabalong office for economic affairs, said the planned company would be owned by the local administration like in Amuntai and South Barito regencies, also in South Kalimantan.
Kiswanul admitted PT Adaro Indonesia and other coal miners had given significant contribution to the development of Tabalong by paying taxes and retributions, but he said it would be much better for Tabalong to own coal transportation firms. (*)
