A well-placed official from South Kalimantan has urged the local administration to soon evaluate coal miner PT Jorong Barutama Greston (JBG) which allegedly had failed to reclaim its coalmines.

Ismet Ahmad, assistant to the South Kalimantan administration secretary, said on Tuesday the evaluation should focus on JGB?s Analysis Concerning Environmental Impact (Amdal).

Ismet said however the local authorities should also be blamed for not properly monitoring JGB?s activities, in Tanah Laut Regency.

The chairman of South Kalimantan?s traditional miners association (ASPERA), Endang Kesumayadi, said recently the government should revoke the mining concession of JGB if it fails to reclaim its coalmines which are no longer operational.

JBG is a unit of Thai energy conglomerate Banpu and currently operates coalmines in Tanah Laut. (Vocces)
