S. Korea?s Kowepo opens tenders for 600,000 metric tons of coal

South Korea-based Korea Western Power Co. Limited (Kowepo) announced Monday it had opened two tenders for a combined 600,000 metric tons (mt) of coal, with delivery period staggered between April to December 2003.

Kowepo said the first tender, Kowepo-Coal-2003-SP04, is for 360,000 mt for delivery from April 1 to May 31, while the second, Kowepo-Coal-2003-SP05, is for 240,000 mt for delivery from July 1 to Dec. 20.

In the first tender, bidders may offer in lots of 60,000 mt or 120,000 mt while in the second tender, offers should be a minimum 120,000 mt.

?Each shipment of coal to be purchased by Kowepo and delivered by the Bidder shall be entirely supplied from a single mine,? Kowepo said.

The company added that the bids would be closed by March 17.

Kowepo is a leading supplier in Korean power industry. Kowepo takes up 14.0 percent of the Korean generating capacity mostly comprised of thermal, combined cycle, and pumped storage power plants.
