S. Korea seeks to increase investment in energy and power

South Korea is seeking opportunities to boost its investment in Indonesia in particular in energy and power sector, South Korea?s Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Yo-ung-sun said after holding a meeting with the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik.

?We discussed about oil, gas and power sector (investment opportunities). The cooperation with Indonesia is needed as Indonesia is an important partner of South Korea,? he told reporters after meeting the minister on Monday.

South Korea is one of biggest buyers of Indonesian LNG through Korean Gas (Kogas).

He said there are a lot of agendas that will be discussed further to materialize the cooperation. He said the South Korean President will come to Bali this week and will meet with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Among issues to be discussed is cementing cooperation in energy sector.

Kim said South Korean companies are interested to invest in developing gas fields and power plants. However he did not elaborate further.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Widjajono Partowidagdo said South Korea is also interested to cooperate in renewable energy development. (godang)
