S. Korea steps up effort to secure LNG supply: Report

Tuesday, February 4 2003 - 05:20 AM WIB

The South Korean government will dispatch teams to five countries starting Wednesday to purchase liquefied natural gas amid escalating concerns of a possible supply disruption, Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper reports.

The five countries are Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Malaysia. However, the article didn't say how much LNG will be purchased.

The government already has purchased 230,000 metric tons of LNG from a Japanese electric power company, according to the newspaper.

South Korean authorities are concerned with securing sufficient gas and oil in the event of a U.S.-led strike on Iraq. (*)
