S. Korean companies to build 400 MW mine-mouth power plant in S. Sumatra

A consortium of South Korean companies is set to build 4x100 MW mine-mouth Bangko Barat power plant in Muara Enim regency, South Sumatra.

The consortium comprising of PT Rajawali Koreasia, Hanwa Engineering and Construction, Korea Power Engineering and Korea Western Power Company would begin the construction of the mine-mouth power plant latter this year.

The new power plant which needs an investment of US$500 million is expected to begin operation in 2011.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with South Sumatra Governor Syahrial Oesman in Palembang, Tuesday, Tae Hoon Chung, Vice President of Hanwa Engineering and Construction, said that the consortium would provide about 30 percent of the funds for the power plant construction and the remaining 70 percent would be obtained from South Korean banks.

According to General Manager of state-owned electricity company PLN for South Sumatra, Jambi and Lampung Dodoh Rahmat, the Bangko Barat mine-mouth power plant is one of 33 power plants to be built or being built in Sumatra.

He said that the power plants would begin operation between 2010 and 2011. (*)
