State-owned firms PT PGN and PT Pertamina will sign tomorrow (Wednesday) a memorandum of understanding with the South Sumatra provincial administration for the supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) to the province.
?This MoU is to support the South Sumatra administration plans? to use CNG for public transportation vehicles. The administration will start to use it for its own vehicles,? PGN spokesperson Agus Diharjo said Tuesday.
Agus said oil and gas firm Pertamina will provide the gas, while gas transmission and distribution firm PGN will be responsible for pipeline network for distribution.
The mandatory use of CNG for public transportation was stated in the province's newly endorsed bylaw No. 2/2005 on air pollution control. The bylaw is expected to be enforced one year after it was signed in February.
PGN and Pertamina have signed a similar agreement with the Jakarta administration. (godang)
