The Lahat regency administration in coal-rich South Sumatra Province promises to do its best to support investors who wish to mine coal in the area, regent Harunata said as reported on Friday by local daily Lahat Pos.

?We will smoothen licensing for any investors who wish to come in and mine coal in Lahat,? Harunata said recently.

The regent expects private investors from Indonesia and overseas to produce coal in the area.

Currently, only state owned coal miner PT Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) has coal mining operation in Lahat. The company also produces coal in Muara Enim Regency, also in South Sumatra, and in West Sumatra.

Harunata said Lahat has large reserve of coal notably in Bumi Seganti Setunggu District. (*)
