S. Sumatra to build solar power plant at Tanjung Api-Api SEZ

The South Sumatra provincial administration will develop a solar power plant in the planned Tanjung Api-Api Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the province, Koran Tempo daily reported on Tuesday.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said that the 50 MW solar power plant will be equipped with a coal-fired power plant the latter of which will supply electricity only in the evening.

The proposed Tanjung Api-Api Special Economic Zone is divided into two zones: the Banyuasin Valley zone I for industries, and the Carat zone II for ports.

Alex said that the administration will also build a 5 MW solar power plant in Jakabaring, which will act as a ?showroom? for the Tanjung Api-Api Special Economic Zone.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to sign presidential regulations for special economic zones in Tanjung Api-Api, Riau Islands and Palu in Central Sulawesi to help gain the confidence of investors. (*)
