S. Sumatra villagers exploit old oil wells

More than 100 households in Sungai Angit village, Muba regency, South Sumatra, have been exploiting old oil wells from the Dutch colonial times, the local Palembang Post daily reported on Tuesday.
The paper said there were around 300 old wells in the area. Between 60 and 100 wells had been illegally exploited by the local villagers.
The exploitation activity started in 1953. The paper said that now the villagers can produce around 18,000 liter of fuel a day. (*)
