S2P builds new power plant in Cilacap

China Development Bank Corporation and PT Sumber Segara Primadaya (S2P) signed a funding facility agreement to finance the development of a 1x614 mega watt (MW) steam power plant as an expansion of the steam power plant (PLTU) Cilacap.
PT S2P is the developer of PLTU Cilacap (2x281 MW) under the scheme of independent power producer (IPP), which has sold its power to the state utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) since 2006.
The new power plant will be constructed adjacent to the existing PLTU Cilacap in Karang Kandri village of Adipala district of Cilacap regency in Central Java.
The power generated from the steam power plant will be supplied to the Java-Bali interconnection network through two kilometers 500KV transmission system from the power plant to the nearest interconnection point.
Like the previous projects, in developing the new power plant, PT S2P did not require a guarantee from the government. PT S2P finances the projects through its own internal cash, project financing of US$ 700 million, and it is expected that it will also get loan from state Bank Rakyat Indonesia.
PT S2P has targeted that the construction of the new power plant will be started this month. It is expected that the construction will be completed in 36 months so that it can start commercial operation (COD) in 2016.
The new power plant is expected to supply power to the Java-Bali system at over 4.300 GWH per year and enable the government to cut the oil fuels (BBM) subsidy.
For this project, according to its proposal, PT S2P will use Chinese made machines for its main machines using supercritical boiler and flue gas desulphurization (FGD) that has higher efficiency.
The power plant will use boiler made by Dongfang Electric and turbine made by Shanghai Electric, but the other parts of the plant will use those products made in Indonesia and also those made in Europe and the US.
