Saipem Karimun Yard to be inaugurated in December

The company, as reported by Bisnis Indonesia, has requested the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik to attend the opening ceremony of this facility which is claimed to be the biggest of its kind in Asia Pacific. Saipem Indonesia is the local unit of Italian-based turnkey oil and gas contractor Saipem International.
The company started building the platform which is worth US$370 million in 2008. This represents the first industrial project in the Karimun island under the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) that covers Bintan, Batam and Karimun.
The facility has begun production January 2010 with a production capacity of 30,000 tons of offshore oil and gas platform-related components, mostly exported to Japan, China and South Korea. (*)
