PT Saka Energi Indonesia, a subsidiary of state-controlled gas distribution firm PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. (PGN) plans to spud a well in South Sesulu block offshore East Kalimantan in this year or in May 2015 at the latest.

?We still continue exploration activities that have been initiated by Hess. So we still have an obligation to drill one well named SIS-A#1 in the block this year or May 2015 at the latest,? Saka?s General Manager of South Sesulu PSC Asep R. Suhendan told Petromindo.com.

The firm?s Exploration Manager Hotma Yusuf said to Petromindo.com, the company is currently looking for a rig with specifications and schedule in line with the firm?s needs. Drilling will take around 25-40 days, he added.

Saka announced a tender a few days ago, seeking for a jack-up rig for the block.

?The commitments that have been fulfilled by Hess for the block are a 500 km2 3D seismic acquisition and G&G studies,? Hotma said.

In October 2013, the company acquired a 100 percent stake in South Sesulu block from US company Hess Corp.
