PT Saka Energi Indonesia, a subsidiary of state-controlled gas distribution firm PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. (PGN), will spud an exploration well named South Sesulu-1 in the South Sesulu block offshore East Kalimantan using Gorilla II jack-up rig, according to a senior official of Saka.

?Spudding in the South Sesulu-1 well will commence after Gorilla II rig is freed from Tomori (in Senoro Toili block in Central Sulawesi operated by JOB Pertamina-Medco E&P),? Saka Operation Director Tumbur Parlindungan told Petromindo.com.

US offshore drilling company Rowan Companies Plc earlier said that its Rowan Gorilla II rig has been awarded a one-well contract with Saka, commencing in December 2014. The daily rate for the rig was US$146,000 per day, Rowan said.

In October 2013, Saka acquired a 100 percent stake in South Sesulu block from US company Hess Corp.
