A group of Sakai tribe, the ingenious ethnic group of the Riau province, are building a house on land owned by PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) in the Mandau district in the province without the consent of the company, Riau Pos reported on Tuesday.

The six-meter house, which is being built on Jalan Hang Tuah, will be the second house to be built by the Sakai people on the oil company's property. The first one was built on Jalan Cut Nyak Dien.

The Sakai claimed that they did not need to get a permission to build the houses because the land was owned by their ancestor.

The Caltex management had yet to take action on the construction of the houses on its properties. The company said that it needed to assess the legal aspect of the land before it took action on the Sakai people.(*)
