Singapore-listed Sakari Resources Limited is upbeat to upgrade production target from its Sebuku mine in South Kalimantan to at least 2.5 million tons this year as the output profile continued to increase with 1.2 million tons in the first semester.

The ramp-up at Sebuku progressed according to plan with an increase of 30 percent to 672 kt in the second quarter compared to 282 kt in the first three months of this year.

?Further progress has been made in the Northern Leases? development with new mining fleet arriving on schedule,? the company said in a quarterly report.

The company?s Jembayan mine in East Kalimantan also recorded an increase of production by 46 percent to 2.1 MT in second quarter from the previous of 1.45 Mt.

?More importantly, the improvements in key cost drivers such as stripping ratio and dumping distances have resulted in a significant cash cost reduction of $10/t compared to the first quarter,? it said.

Sebuku?s production rate is planned to continue towards its steady-state target of 4-4.5 mtpa over the next 18-24 months. After a slow start to 2012, Jembayan is now set to resume production increases with its order book showing a corresponding increase in shipments to customers in the second semester.
