Singapore-listed coal mining firm Sakari Resources produced 8.3 million tons of coal during 2012, lower compared to its initial target of 9 million tons, at its Jembayan mines area in Kutai Kartanegara regency, East Kalimantan, an industrial source told Petromindo.Com.

The figure is also slightly lower compared to the previous year?s output of 8.5 million tons.

The company reduced coal output in response to the downturn in the global market, the source said, adding that for this year the company is expecting to try to return to its previous target of 9 million tons of coal.

The company opened 2 new pits in the first quarter of 2012 to give Jembayan a more stable and sustainable production base.

At present, Sakari has three producing mines in Jembayan area, namely PT Jembayan Muarabara, PT Kemilau Rindang Abadi and PT Arzara Baraindo Energitama.

Sakari still has several coal mines in Jembayan area which are not in production stage yet.

Sakari is 46 percent controlled by Thai state energy firm PTT Group.
