PT Sakti Mas Mulia is developing four coal-fired power plant (PLTU) projects under a build, operate and transfer (BOT) deal with state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

The power plants are PLTU Bintan with a capacity of 2x15 MW, PLTU Kema (2x25 MW), PLTU Jayapura (2x15 MW) and PLTU Mukomuko (3x7 MW), President Director A. Santoso said.

PLTU Bintan, located in the Riau Archipelago province, is expected to start commercial operation in June 2012. Works on the project have been 75 percent completed. The project has experienced a delay due to the 2008 economic crisis. The firm has managed to revise upwards the price of power from the power plant to 7.6 US cents per kWh in the renegotiation with PLN.

Meanwhile, the firm is in the process of acquiring lands for the PLTU Kema project in Manado, which is expected to go commercial in 2013. The price of power from the power plant is set at 8 cents per kWh.

With regards to PLTU Jayapura in Papua, the firm has secured a letter of intent (LoI) for the project from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in November last year under which the price of power from the power plant is set at 12.02 cents per kWh. Commercial operation date (COD) of the power plant is set in 2014.

?As a follow up, we shall negotiate with PLN on power purchase agreement (PPA) and finalize negotiation with the indigenous community in Papua on land acquisition,? he said.

As for PLTU Mukomuko in Bengkulu, the firm is negotiating with ESDM on a letter of intent and power price. (ejunaedi)
