UK independent oil, gas firm Salamander Energy plc reported on Wednesday that it was part of the consortium which has been negotiating a Letter of Intent for Diamond Offshore?s Ocean General semi-submersible rig for its drilling campaign offshore East Kalimantan.

The company plans to use the rig to drill four prospects on its acreage in the North Kutei basin starting in fourth quarter of 2012.

Salamander said it has mapped approximately 20 leads and prospects in the basin. Salamander holds majority operated interests in the Bontang and SE Sangatta PSC?s, located in the North Kutei basin.
