Salamander secures rig to start Bontang drilling campaign

UK oil, gas firm Salamander Energy has contracted The Neptune Explorer drillship owned by Singapore-based Neptune Marine Oil & Gas Limited to drill its Angklung-1 exploration well in the Bontang PSC, East Kalimantan.

The drillship is expected to be on location between June and July, the company said in statement on Tuesday.

The Neptune Explorer is a Pelican Class self propelled drill ship, capable of operating in 5,000 ft of waters with a DP-2 system.

The Angklung prospect has been selected as the first exploration drilling target on the block. It is forecast to contain mean prospective resources of 125 MMboe.

Salamander has 90% interest in the Bontang PSC. (denny)
