Salamander to drill 2 wells in C. Kalimantan block

UK oil, gas firm Salamander Energy and its partners in Bangkanai block onshore Central Kalimantan will drill two exploration wells within the PSC area in 2011-12.

Its 5 percent partner in the block another UK firm Sound Oil revealed in a recent presentation that one well will be drilled at Karendan prospect. The SL-1 will be drilled as deepening of planned production well. At this location targets upside potential of at least 2 TCF of gas in Deep Prospect.

Another well will be drilled at Jupoi prospect, which has potential to host 3 TCF of gas, the company claimed.

Sound also reported that the partnership is targeting to start development of Karendan gas field in 2012-13. 133 BCF of Karendan gas, or 55 percent of total current gas reserves in the field has been committed to supply the proposed power plant which will be built near the field. Upside remainder will be used in other projects, Sound said without giving detail.

Salamander has 69 percent working interest in Bangkanai block.(alex)
