Samarinda has 300 million tons of coal reserves

The Samarinda town in East Kalimantan has some 300 million tons of potential coal reserves with quality of equal to between 5,000-7,000 Kcal per kg, according to head of the mayoralty?s mining office Chairuddin Samad.

Chairuddin told the local Metro Balikpapan daily that the administration six mining firms and three cooperatives had obtained the license to exploit the coal reserves including those on sites which stretches to neighboring Kutai Kertanegara regency.

The six mining firms include PT Bukit Baiduri Enterprise with total mining site of 34,600 ha; PT Mahakam Sumber Jaya with 20,380 ha; PT Lanna Harita Indonesia 14,690 ha; PT Multi Harapan Utama with 47,232.25 ha; PT Insani Bara Perkasa 41,210 ha; and PT Nusa Mineral Utama 34,600 ha.(*)
