Sambas, China?s Chengdu Dongtai to build nickel smelter

Nickel mining company PT Sambas Minerals Mining is teaming up with China?s Chengdu Dongtai Yongli Technology Co Ltd to develop a smelter to refine nickel ores in South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

A ceremony to mark the start of the construction of the project was held on Monday, attended by officials from the two firms and local government officials.

Sambas President Director Anton Tarigan was quoted as saying that the smelter would be developed using environmental-friendly hydrometallurgy system.

He said that the Rp 500 billion smelter to be located on a 50-hectare of land is expected to be completed in June of next year, with output to be exported.

Sambas owns more than 1,000 hectares nickel concession in South Konawe Regency.(*)
