Samudera Indonesia to take part in tender for Patimban Port operation

Shipping and logistic company PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk (SMDR) said it is interested to take part in a tender to manage the Patimban Port in Subang, West Java.

The company the plan of the government to give opportunity for private sector in operating the Patimban Port, which is an alternative international port to the congested Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta.

Samudera said it has the proven experience in managing container port in Tanjung Priok and Samarinda in East Kalimantan.

Semudera Indonesia said the company plans to collaborate with MMC Corporation Berhard, the largest coal operator in Malaysia, in the Patimban Port tender.

The car terminal at the Patimban Port aims to ease the traffic congestion caused by the delivery of cars for exports from Bekasi car manufacturers in West Java to the main Tanjung Priok port.

The Patimban port is designed to accommodate 250,000-300,000 units of cars.

The port development is divided into three phases. In the first phase, the port will accommodate 3.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and 600,000 units of completely built-up cars (CBU). In the second phase, the capacity of the port will increase to 5.5 million TEUs and then further increase to 7.5 million TEUs in the third phase.

The Patimban Port is scheduled to partially start commercial operation in 2020.
