Samudra Indonesia buys coal vessels

IDX-listed shipping firm PT Samudra Indonesia Tbk (SI), through its subsidiary Samudra Shipping Line Ltd., has placed an order for two more Supramax-type vessels worth US$ 86 million to strengthen its coal export transportation.
SI?s President Director Randy Effendi said in Jakarta Wednesday that the company had signed a contract on the building of the vessels with South Korea's STX Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
The building of the Supramax-type vessels, each with a capacity of 50,000-60,000 dwt, was expected to be completed in 2011, he said.
Currently, SI operates eight vessels to support its coal transportation and industrial offshore activities. The company has also 14 vessels to transport oil and gas and chemical materials. (*)
