Sand diggers attacked by residents

A number of sand diggers in Ngemplek Seneng village in Kelaten, Central Java were severely injured late last week after the villagers attacked them when they were still digging the sand.

Witnesses said that the villagers got angry and beat the diggers after they found the digging acitivties had caused a damage on the water dam, which distributed the water for their rice fields.

The damage in the dam would not only interrupted the water supply to their rice fields but could also result in a big flood in the area, the villagers said. (*)
