Sand digging continues despite ban

Activities of some companies to dig sand in Nongsa village on Batam Island are continuing despite the government's recent decision to stop the activities, which have severelu damaged the local environment.

The local residents, especially those who earn for their living to collect the sand, protests the continuing of the sand digging activities.

"How could we are banned from collecting the sand while big companies with their big trucks are left undisturbed," one of the residents said. (*)
