State-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is relieved to learn that gas from the Sanga-Sanga coal bed methane (CBM) gas field will finally start to flow into its power plant at the end of this month.

PLN has been waiting for more than a year to get gas from the Sanga-Sanga field in East Kalimantan operated by VICO, which has signed a five-year contract to supply 0.5 mmscfd of gas to PLN?s gas-fired Sangatta power plant. The 2 MW plant is said to be the first power plant in the country that uses the unconventional CBM gas.

?We have been waiting for the gas for more than a year,? Head of Fuel and Gas Division at PLN, Suryadi Mardjoeki told Petromindo.com on Monday.
