The Sanggaran combined-cycle power plant in Denpasar, Bali, will start using LNG early next year as PT Perta Daya Gas is set to supply the LNG to replace diesel fuel, Kompas reported on Saturday.

The paper quoted Perta Daya Gas official I Cening Widhiana as saying Thursday that out of the 600 MW capacity of the power plant, about 200 MW would be fueled by gas.

Perta Daya Gas, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has initially planned to set up an LNG terminal in Benoa, but the plan has not been approved by the Bali provincial administration which has designated Benoa in its 2011-2031 zoning plan as a tourism and marine area.

Widhiana said that in the meantime, Perta Daya will supply the LNG to the power plant via vessel, while the company continues to lobby the local administration for approval to its planned LNG terminal in Benoa. (*)
