Santos completes exploration program in Madura Straits

ASX-listed Santos Ltd announced Friday that a two-well near-field exploration program in the Madura Straits, offshore East Java, adjacent to the Santos-operated Maleo and Peluang fields, was completed in the second quarter of this year.
The statement also said that the Meliwis-1 well in the Madura offshore block encountered a gas column and evaluation of the discovery is ongoing.
As had been previously reported, the first well, Merem-1, was drilled in the first quarter and failed to encounter commercial hydrocarbons.
Santos has a 67.5 percent interest and is the operator of Madura Offshore PSC. Other partners are PC Madura Ltd and PT Petrogas Pantai Madura. As reported earlier in this portal, Santos Indonesia has allocated between US$15 and $20 million in capital expenditures for exploration activities in Indonesia this year.
