Australia-based oil and gas firm Santos Limited announced that it has completed the installation of an unmanned facility wellhead platform in Wortel field and the expansion of Oyong wellhead platform, offshore Madura Island in its Sampang PSC, East Java.

The completion of the two platform projects are expected to lengthen the economic value of the fields? facilities, thus optimizing the company?s oil and gas production in the country, it said in a statement on Thursday.

Gas production from Wortel, which commenced in late January 2012, flows to fuel PT Indonesia Power?s power plant in Grati amounting to 30 bbtud, the statement said, while adding that the expansion of Oyong?s platform, which has been in operation since late February 2012, will increase oil production from the Oyong field to around 3,500 bopd.

Santos is also developing an onshore processing facility (OPF) in Lekok, East Java, which is designed to process gas produced from Oyong with a maximum capacity of 102 bbtud of gas.

Oyong and Wortel fields are located within the Sampang block with Santos (Sampang) Pty Ltd holding a 45 percent interest, Singapore Petroleum Sampang Pty Ltd 40 percent and Cue (Sampang) Pty Ltd 15 percent.

Other major activities in Indonesia by Santos included the modification of production platform in Maleo field, which has also reached completion. The modification revolved around the addition of X-Brace structure to further support and strengthen the platform.

The company is now intensively studying a development project to tie-in this production platform with its assets in Peluang field. A sanction project, or the process of project?s feasibility approval, is expected to be obtained by the end of 2012. A Front End Engineering and Design work on the Peluang asset is currently underway, and if approved, drilling is targeted to take place in 2013 with production estimated at 25 bbtud.

The Maleo and Peluang fields are within the Madura Offshore block, with Santos (Madura Offshore) Pty Ltd holding 67.5 percent interest, PC Madura Ltd 22.5 percent and PT Petrogras Pantai Madura 10 percent.
