Santos discovers three oil wells off Madura island

PT Santos, a subsidiary of an oil company based in Australia, has discovered at least three oil wells in deep sea off Madura island, Suara Karya reported on Thursday.

The company's spokesperson Emillia Hutabarat said that one of the oil wells was discovered in sea area near Kedundung village, Modung district of Bangkalan regency while the other two wells were found in Sereseh and Camplong districts in Sampang regency.

She said that the exploration works on the oil wells, which were also estimated to contain gas reserves, would be carried in October this year at the depth of 2,460 meters.

Santos, one of Pertamina's production sharing contractors, could not yet estimate the contain of the oil reserves in the oil wells but it said it was optimistic that the wells would be economically feasible for production. (*)
