Australian oil and gas firm Santos Limited had abandoned Anggur-3 well, in the Sampang production-sharing contract (PSC) offshore East Java at a total depth of 2520 meters after mechanical difficulties precluded drilling ahead to the Ngrayong objective, according to a statement released by Cue Energy, the joint venture partner Tuesday.

The statement said minor oil and gas shows were encountered in the Mundu and Wonocolo formations and indicate the presence of active hydrocarbon generation and migration in the area of the Anggur structure.

The well was programmed to a total depth of 2708 meters.

Santos, the PSC operator has 45 percent interest in Sampang block while Coastal Indonesia Sampang and Cue Energy hold 40 percent and 15 percent, respectively. (alex)
