The Australian mining company, Santos is ready to market natural gas from its gas field in the district of Pengkalan Kerinci, Riau, according to the province's senior official.

Tengku Azmun, the chairman of the provincial development board, told Riau Pos over the weekend that the company would sell the natural gas to local users but it had yet to receive an approval from state oil and gas Pertamina.

The potential buyers include RAPP, PT Indah Kiat and PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, which operate the country's oil field in the province, he said, following a meeting with Santos' General Manager Bob Hall at his office on Friday.

Santos, one of Pertamina's production sharing contractors, has found gas deposits in the concession area in the Lenggam regency.

Azmun said he hoped the gas production from Santos' gas field would further support the province's economic development program. (*).
