Santos to drill an exploration well in Madura PSC, E. Java next year

Australian oil and gas firm Santos Limited is planning to drill one wild cat well in Madura Offshore production sharing contract (PSC) block in East Java, according to a company official.

?We will start drilling one well in May 2002 and to conduct seismic study to determine another drilling location,? John Bates, Santos Indonesia?s exploration manager told Petromindo.com Monday.

Earlier, Santos said it planned the first drilling in Madura PSC this year. The cause of the delay was not immediately known.

Santos acquire 75 percent working interest and operatorship in Madura Offshore PSC from Canadian oil, gas firm Talisman Energy earlier this year.

The Madura Offshore PSC permit is 35 kilometers from the Oyong -1 and 2 hydrocarbon discoveries at Sampang PSC where Santos intersected a 145-meter hydrocarbon column, 110 meters of gas and 35 meters of oil. (godang)
