Santos to get nod to develop E. Java gas field

Upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS is close to approve Plan of Development (PoD) of Wortel gas field in Sampang PSC, offshore East Java,. A senior official said on Tuesday.

BPMIGAS Evaluation and Development Division Head Bambang Soewandi said that the PoD might formally be approved next week. ?We have completed the evaluation,? he said.

He did not give detail.

Sampang PSC is operated by Australian oil, gas firm Santos Limited.

In November 2008 Cue Energy Limited, a partner at Sampang PSC said that first gas from the field is expected late 2010.

According to the company, Wortel has recoverable reserves of between 60-130BCF.

Under the plan of development submitted, development would consist of a well head platform on the field, with two deviated development wells, and a pipeline to the Oyong facilities, 7kms to the east, it said.

The block operator Santos Limited said in February 2008 that Wortel discovery would be able to produce gas at the rate of 40-60 MMCFD. (bernard)
