PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, stated that unit 1 of the Sarulla geothermal power plant in North Sumatera Province has begun supplying electricity to state-owned electricity firm PT PLN's power grid.
President Director of MPI, Fazil E. Alfitri told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that the power plant project has now entered the commissioning stage.
Fazil said that the unit 1 is expected to soon enter the commercial operation stage.
The US$1.7 billion Sarulla geothermal power plant project has a total installed capacity of 330 MW. The unit 1 has a capacity of 110 MW.
The company initially targeted the commercial operation date (COD) status for the unit 1 to be made on December 26, but Fazil said that reaching the COD stage also depends on factors beyond the company?s control particularly completion of the required licenses from the government.
The unit 2 and 3 are targeted to be on stream in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
