PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, stated that unit 2 of the Sarulla geothermal power plant project with capacity of 110 MW in North Sumatera province is on the track to be completed this year.

President Director of MPI, Fazil E. Alfitri told Petromindo.com on Monday that the unit 2 is currently in the development phase. Fazil, however, didn't elaborate the progress of the project. "We are still targeting to complete the unit 2 this year and unit 3 in the following year," he said.

The first unit of Sarulla geothermal power plant project with a capacity of 110 MW started earlier this year supplying electricity to state-owned electricity firm PT PLN's power grid. Fazil said earlier that the unit 1 was expected to soon enter the commercial operation stage once the commissioning stage has been completed.

The US$1.7 billion Sarulla geothermal power plant project has a total installed capacity of 330 MW.
