The second unit of the 3x110 MW Sarulla geothermal power plant project in Tapanuli Utara Regency, North Sumatra Province, is expected to be on-stream in September of this year, sooner than the initial schedule of October.

This was said by President Director of PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) Fazil Erwin Alfitri to Petromindo.com on the sidelines of a visit last week by Director General of New and Renewable Energy Rida Mulyana to the Sarulla project.

Fazil said that the second 110 MW Sarulla geothermal power plant will supply electricity to the North Sumatra system. The first unit of 110MW started operation on March 18.

Fazil said the third unit is targeted to start operation in June of 2018.

MPI is a member of a consortium called Sarulla Operations Ltd assigned to develop the Sarulla geothermal power plant project, dubbed as one of the largest in the world. Other members of the consortium are Itochu, Ormat and Kyushu Electric.
