Sawit Sumbermas to build two biomass power plants

IDX-listed palm oil company PT Sawit Sumbermas Sarana Tbk plans to build two biomass-based power plants near its palm oil mills in Pangkalan Bun and Suluh, Central Kalimantan, each with a capacity of about 2 MW, Kontan reported on Saturday.

The paper quoted Sawit President Director Rimbun Situmorang as saying that each plant will cost about US$4 million.

About 1.4-1.6 MW of the each plant will be used internally to power the company?s palm oil mills, while the remainder to be sold to state-owned electricity firm PT PLN to supply local households, Rimbun explained.

He added that the company is expected to sign agreement with its partner providing the technology in August, and hopes that construction of the plants would take about 20 months. He did not disclose the identity of the would-be partner in the project. (*)
