SBE's blasting plan not approved

In an anticipated turn of event, the people of Teluk Bayur, Berau Regency of East Kalimantan expressed their disagreement with mine blasting plans outlined by coal miner PT Supra Bara Energi (SBE) during its socialization on Jan. 10.

A source told Tribunews.com that the only reason why the company conducted socialization for the plan was because it is one of the many requirements to obtain blasting permit from Berau Regent.

"Other companies operating in Berau have worked well without blasting, so why can't SBE?" Agus Uriansyah, one of the protesters said.

They also feared that if SBE received the blasting permit, other companies will follow, sending more mine dusts and debris to their surroundings. (*)
