SBY inaugurates power plants in Banten and North Sumatra

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, widely known by his initials ?SBY?, inaugurated on Thursday two coal-fired power plants, respectively located in Banten and North Sumatra, which are part of the Phase One 10,000 MW crash program.

The two power plants are the 2x300 MW PLTU 2 Banten Labuan plant in Pandeglang, Banten and the 2x115 MW PLTU Labuhan Angin in Sibolga, Tapanuli Tengah, North Sumatra.

The Unit 1 of the Banten Labuan plant has been connected with to the Java-Bali grid since July 2009, while the Unit 2 is undergoing a trial operation and is expected to start commercial operation in March 2010.

The power plant consumes 160,000 tons of low-rank coal per year. Four suppliers have agreed to supply the power plant with coal over a period of 20 years, that is: PT Titan Mining Energy (285.000 ton/year), the consortium of PT Arutmin Indonesia and Darma Henwa ( 95.000 ton/year), the consortium of PT Kasih Industri Indonesia and Senamas Energindo Mulia ( 950.000 ton/year) and PT Bara Mutiara Prima ( 570.000 ton/year).

The Banten Labuan power plant was constructed on 66.45 hectares of land by the consortium of Chengda Engineering Corp. of China dan PT Truba Jurong Engineering. The EPC contract was signed on March 12, 2007. luas lahan 66,45 ha.

Meanwhile, the PLTU Labuhan Angin started commercial operation on April 21, 2009 (Unit 2) and Nov.7, 2009 (Unit 1).

The power plant was built by China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corp (CMEC) with the EPC contract signed on Oct. 6, 2003. (Bernard)
